Melania Trump once more stirs curiosity regarding the Butler incident, as she remembers the instant she discovered accounts of intended assassinations.
In a chat with Fox News, which broadcasted on Thursday, the ex-first lady expressed her bewilderment surrounding the Butler incident that involved the injury of former President Donald Trump and others, culminating in one fatality. She voiced her suspicion towards the circumstances surrounding the investigation, labeling them as "not typical."
"It's peculiar how the noise about July 13 event died down, all mainstream media reported about it for a few days, then it became radio silence. So I have plenty of questions: What's going on? It's not right," she stated.
Her statements during the interview, part of her promotional campaign for her new book, followed her social media post earlier this month raising concerns about the security protocols at the rally and demanding transparency on the attempted assassination.
"I can't help but think, why wasn't the shooter apprehended prior to the speech?" she pondered in the video. "There is definitely more to this story, and we should be able to uncover the truth."
During the Fox News interview, the ex-first lady also pointed fingers at the Democrats for contributing partly to the attempted assassinations due to their rhetoric. She claimed that by branding her husband as a "threat to democracy," they were escalating a hostile climate.
"Is it surprising that aggressive violence targets my husband given that we constantly hear opposition leaders and mainstream media label him as 'threat to democracy,' hurl vile insults at him? They're just adding fuel to the fire, promoting an unhealthy atmosphere, and empowering individuals intending to harm him. It needs to cease. The country must unite," she asserted.
Donald Trump addressed the event in Butler on July 13, where the shooter fired eight shots at the stage, causing harm to the former president's right ear. The Secret Service agentsTerminated the shooter at the scene.
Donald Trump is slated to hold another rally in Butler next week, thus revisiting the city since the assassination attempt. The event intends to pay tribute to Corey Comperatore, the firefighter who died in the shooting, and two supporters who sustained injuries, according to the Trump campaign announcement made on Wednesday.
Melania Trump shed light on her learning about both attempted assassinations via television while she was in a separate city from her husband.
"I turned on the TV, and I rewound it. I was minutes behind, and I didn't fully witness it live. Maybe around 3 to 5 minutes after it had happened. But when I saw it, I realized nobody properly knew what had transpired because when you see him on the ground, you don't know exactly what occurred," she remarked about the Butler shooting.
She also noted her learning about the second assassination attempt, which took place on Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, recently.
"I was in New York City when I saw it on TV, and I called him. He was fine since Secret Service personnel were excellent," she recalled.
The former president was rapidly escorted away from the golf course after a Secret Service agent fired at a suspect spotted in the bushes near the club's perimeter. The suspect was later detained and eventually indicted on an attempted assassination charge along with two gun-related charges.
Melania Trump regarded the survival of both attempted assassinations as miraculous and suggested that Trump was spared to serve a significant purpose for the American people.
"I think both occurrences [were miraculous], particularly the July 13 [incident], considering the extent of it. He could have been gone. I believe something was guarding him. He seems vital to the country," she noted.
Her upcoming memoir titled "Melania" is scheduled for release in October, as per Skyhorse Publishing. Her office described the book as a "powerful and inspiring story" of a woman overcoming adversity and reaching personal achievements.
The former first lady has maintained a discreet profile throughout her husband's 2024 presidential campaign, making occasional public appearances since he announced his bid in November 2022.
"Given the recent events and the ongoing investigation into the Butler incident, it's crucial for politics to remain civil and promote unity, rather than inflammatory language or labels that could escalate tensions," Melania expressed.
"After the assassination attempts, it's essential for political leaders and the media to exercise responsibility in their words and actions, considering the potential impact on public safety and politics," she emphasized.
