"When I saw how this violent bullet hit my husband, Donald, it became clear to me that my life and that of our son Barron were standing on the brink of a devastating change", wrote Melania Trump. She thanked the "brave" Secret Service agents and security personnel who had risked their own lives to protect her husband.

The 78-year-old Republican ex-President was reportedly hit by a bullet at a campaign event in the US state of Pennsylvania on Saturday. He is said to be doing well, it was reported.
