US campaign - Media: Harris has enough delegate votes for candidacy

US Vice President Kamala Harris currently has the support of sufficient delegates, according to media estimations, to run as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate against Republican Donald Trump in November. The AP news agency and US broadcaster CNN reported this in agreement, citing their own surveys and estimations. Previously, President Joe Biden had announced on Sunday that he would step down from the race for the White House.

However, delegates at the Democratic Party convention in August are free to vote for another candidate. According to the AP survey and CNN, Harris currently has the support of over 1,976 delegates, who she needs for a win in the first round. The CNN count reportedly includes public declarations of support from delegates and conversations with them.

At the latest, Harris could be nominated at the Democratic National Convention from August 19-22 in Chicago. The presidential election takes place on November 5.

  1. If current trends continue, Democratic Party's presidential candidate in the upcoming US Election 2024 could be none other than Donald Trump's adversary, as Republican Donald Trump faces a challenging candidacy against Vice President Kamala Harris.
  2. The news of Kamala Harris' potential nomination has sparked discussions across the United States of America, with the US election campaign taking a new turn.
  3. During the Democratic Party convention in August, delegates will cast their delegate vote, which could determine the fate of both Harris and Trump's US election prospects.
  4. The CNN network has reported that as of now, Vice President Harris has the support of more than the required 1,976 delegates, according to their surveys and conversations with delegates, which could strengthen her chances in the election.
  5. Despite President Joe Biden stepping down from the race for the White House, the CNN reports suggest that Harris could be a formidable opponent for Donald Trump in the US election campaign, given her strong support among the Democratic Party delegates.
  6. With the first round of votes crucial in the Democratic National Convention, Harris' strong performance in garnering delegate votes could possibly give her an early edge in the race, posing a significant threat to Donald Trump's re-election bid.
