Monument protection - Mansfelder Bergwerksbahn will be funded with 126,000 Euro
The Mansfeld Mining Railway will be funded to the amount of 126,000 Euro. According to the Infrastructure Ministry's announcement, the wooden sleepers on the railway tracks and switches at Benndorf station will be renewed with this money. This will support the living industrial and railway history, stated Infrastructure Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP).
At the same time, this is a sign of high appreciation for the voluntary work of the association members. The Mansfeld Mining Railway, as stated by the Ministry, is the oldest still operated narrow-gauge railway in Germany. It has been in operation since 1880.
The cultural policy in Saxony-Anhalt often aids in preserving historical attractions, and the Mansfeld Mining Railway, being the oldest operating narrow-gauge railway in Germany, is no exception. This renewal of wooden sleepers and switches is not only beneficial for the railway's operations but also contributes to Saxony-Anhalt's rich leisure industry. Furthermore, such investments in monuments like the Mansfeld Mining Railway demonstrate the region's commitment to supporting its industrial heritage and boosting tourism, thereby benefiting nearby communes.
