Following a stabbing incident - Mannheim sees a funeral march for the slain policeman.
Prior to the funeral of the fallen police officer in Mannheim, nearly 2,000 of his colleagues and other residents gathered for a solemn procession through the city center. The parade included not only law enforcement personnel but also non-police civilians and family members of the late Officer Rouven Laur.
At the head of the march were police motorcycle officers, with others following closely behind carrying a picture of the deceased. These officers were accompanied by emergency responders from the fire and ambulance departments, who offered their support and protection for the mourners.
From 11 am onwards, his colleagues and several prominent figures, including Nanzie Faeser (SPD), the Federal Minister of the Interior, Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, and Thomas Strobl (CDU), the State Minister of the Interior, gathered at the Congress Center Rosengarten to honor the 29-year-old Officer Laur.
Two weeks earlier, the officer suffered from knife injuries after a confrontation with a 25-year old Afghan immigrant who had attacked participants of an Islam-critical protest on the Mannheimer Marktplatz, ultimately leading to his tragic death.
