With a brake cleaner, a man in Oberpfalz wanted to burn ants in his cellar - and ended up in the hospital with his wife. During the attempt, the rags in the heating cellar ignited, according to the police. The homeowner and his wife suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning from the fire in the morning in Teunz. A rescue helicopter took the man to a specialized clinic, his wife was taken to a clinic by an ambulance. Against the homeowner, investigations are now being carried out for negligent arson and negligent bodily harm, said a police spokeswoman.

The incident involved the use of a brake cleaner, leading to an unintended fire in their cellar. Due to the smoke inhalation, both the man and his wife from Oberpfalz, located in Upper Palatinate, Germany, required emergency medical attention. As the fire spread, it was exacerbated by wood chips present in the cellar. The man was airlifted to a specialized clinic in an emergency, while his wife was transported by ambulance to a local clinic.
