Erlangen - Man injures staff and escapes from psychiatric ward
In his escape from a psychiatric clinic in Erlangen, a 34-year-old man attacked and lightly injured a staff member. The man fled from the district hospital after the attack, according to the police. Subsequently, he went to a nearby house - presumably to hide there. The police made no further statements on whether anyone was in the building.
Clues led the enforcement officers to the house, as it turned out. Numerous officers - among them a so-called Support Command (USK) - surrounded the building. The man was then arrested peacefully on a Monday evening and returned to the clinic. He now has to account for himself, among other things, regarding the suspicion of aggravated battery and trespassing.
The USK is a special unit and supports the police, among other things, in interventions with potential for violence.
The man's hideout was discovered in a house located in Bavaria, where the incident involving the psychiatric clinic escapee took place. During the operation to apprehend him, the police called in the assistance of a Support Command unit from Bavaria, known as the USK, due to the potential for violence.
