After a dive from the 10-meter board, a young man in Bremen likely died from internal injuries. The 23-year-old hit the water chest-first and sustained fatal injuries, according to a police spokesperson. "It was a terrible accident." The case is now closed.

According to the Bremen Baths, two lifeguards witnessed the man's poor dive and landing on Monday afternoon. "We believe he fell unluckily," said a spokesperson for the Bremen Baths. The 23-year-old resurfaced but made uncertain swimming movements, with his condition visibly deteriorating. The lifeguards immediately reacted, pulling him out of the water and performing first aid, but to no avail.

A "very, very tragic accident" in Bremen

Such an incident has never occurred in Bremen before. "There are always people who land poorly, but they usually just have a red bottom, maybe a bruise or an ear injury," said the spokesperson for the Bremen Baths. This case is not comparable. "It was simply a very, very tragic accident." A crisis intervention team is supporting staff, and the 10-meter board remains closed today out of respect. "We can't just carry on."

Specially trained staff always supervise the diving towers, emphasized the spokesperson for the Bremen Baths. They ensure, among other things, that no children are pushed into the water and only experienced swimmers dive. Those who have jumped from the three, five, and seven-and-a-half-meter boards can attempt the highest. "You should work your way up to the 10-meter board to assess the dive," said the spokesperson. When diving from the 10-meter board, one reaches a speed of approximately 50 kilometers per hour and should aim to enter the pool with minimal contact with the water surface. "The smaller the impact area, the less forceful the impact."

The young man's tragic death from internal injuries following his dive has left the Bremen Baths community in mourning. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers involved in diving from significant heights.

This unfortunate incident has brought to light the importance of following safety guidelines when diving, emphasizing the need to progressively increase heights before attempting the 10-meter board.
