Criminality - Man at Ammersee killed? - Suspect flees
The Police are searching nationwide for a man who is suspected of killing a 74-year-old man in his house in Herrsching am Ammersee, in Upper Bavaria. The suspect reportedly fled on foot after the alleged crime. An extensive search with helicopters, dogs, and numerous police officers was initially unsuccessful. However, the police are maintaining a strong presence in Herrsching, according to a spokesperson for the Oberbayern Nord Police Presidium.
The body of the man was found in a single-family home in the Mühlfeld district (Landkreis Starnberg) on a tip to the police on Friday evening. According to the police, initial investigations suggest that a man attacked the 74-year-old in his single-family home. The suspect is said to have left the property afterwards and fled on foot. The victim's wife managed to escape to a neighbor's house, who informed the police.
The police searched for possible escape routes and questioned neighbors in the aftermath. Divers and tracking dogs were also involved in the search efforts. The Criminal Police Inspection in Fürstenfeldbruck set up an investigation team with 30 policewomen and policemen.
The body of the man was taken to the forensic medicine institute in Munich and underwent autopsy on Saturday. The spokesperson made no initial comments on the results, as it could be considered evidence from the perpetrator.
Regarding a possible motive, a weapon, and the exact injuries to the man, the police made no initial comments due to investigative reasons. "We are keeping quiet about that."
The search for the suspect is being led by the Northern Police Presidium Upper Bavaria, who are coordinating efforts across Bavaria. Yesterday, a helicopter was deployed over Lake Ammersee in Herrsching, Upper Bavaria, to aid in the manhunt. Despite the extensive search, the suspect remains at large. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's whereabouts to come forward.
