Violence - Man at Ammersee killed - Suspect arrested
The suspect in the case of the alleged murder in Herrsching at the Ammersee has been arrested. French special forces of the police arrested the man on a Thursday at an apartment in Paris, according to a spokesperson of the Oberbayern Nord Police Presidium. Previously, the "Bild" newspaper had reported on the arrest.
According to the reports, the suspect is a 22-year-old Serbian man. He had been living alone in the apartment and had surrendered without resistance, it was said. He was supposed to be presented to an investigating judge on Friday.
The man is suspected of attacking a 74-year-old man in a single-family house in the Mühlfeld district (Landkreis Starnberg) with a knife on the previous Friday and causing fatal injuries. The victim's wife was able to escape to a neighbor, who alerted the Police. The alleged perpetrator is said to have fled during this time. The police found the body of the man in the house.
A large-scale search with helicopters, dogs, and numerous police officers was initially unsuccessful. An public appeal with photos of the suspect led to his identification, according to the police. Agents of the Bavarian Criminal Police Office were able to trace the suspect's trail from Munich, Innsbruck, and Zurich to France for the arrest. The Federal Criminal Office coordinated the cooperation with the French police for the arrest.
"The valuable tips from the public appeal led us to identify the suspect quickly," Manfred Frei, Chief of the Criminal Police in Fürstenfeldbruck, said. The suspect is believed to have already spent several hours in Herrsching before the crime and was therefore also visible on photos and videos, such as surveillance cameras.
Evidence found in the forest
The exact background of the incident is still unclear. During a search operation with around 120 officers of the Dachau Readiness Police in a nearby forest section, investigators reportedly found "procedure-relevant evidence" on Wednesday. Further information on the case was to be announced by the police and prosecutor's office in Herrsching in the afternoon.
