Attack out of resentment? - Man admits brutal attack on ex-wife - without explanation
A man on trial at the Aschaffenburg District Court for attempting to murder his ex-wife allegedly attacked her mother instead. "It is beyond doubt that he is the culprit," said the defendant's lawyer during the trial's opening. However, the defendant, aged 39, will not disclose the reasons for the attack from January. "He will remain silent in his defense," announced lawyer Jens Goymann.
The defendant is accused of unexpectedly attacking the 36-year-old woman in Aschaffenburg with a kitchen knife and severely injuring her. "She did not anticipate an attack on her life or physical integrity at that time. Instead, she believed the defendant would greet her," said Prosecutor Jürgen Bundschuh. "The defendant intended to punish the victim for leaving him or refusing to resume their relationship."
The Somalian man held the woman responsible for his unhappy life. The suspect was filled with resentment and envy that his ex-wife was happy with her children while he lived on the streets penniless. "These motives are considered the lowest in moral terms and particularly contemptible," Bundschuh said.
The victim still bears visible signs of the attack, including numerous scars on her face. "She barely survived the attack." The defendant wanted to degrade his victim.
The couple were married according to Islamic law. The woman is reported to have separated from her partner over a year and a half before the incident. Two days before the attack, the man is said to have released the 36-year-old from the marriage through a divorce decree.
Six trial days are planned for the proceedings, extending until July 24th.
- Despite the defendant's lawyer stating his client's silence, the prosecutor in Bavaria, Germany, believes the resentment and envy towards his ex-wife's happiness with her children and new life played a significant role in the attempted murder incident in Aschaffenburg.
- The defense attorney, Jens Goymann, has announced that the Somalian man, under trial for attempted murder, will not disclose the reasons behind his actions from January, even amid allegations of resentment and a desire to punish his ex-wife.
- The process in the Aschaffenburg District Court is expected to last six trial days, with the woman, who narrowly escaped death from the attack, being a key witness.
- The accused's ex-wife, now living happily with her children, had filed for divorce two days prior to the attempted murder in Aschaffenburg, which left her mother severely injured.
- The most disturbing aspect of the case, as reported by Prosecutor Jürgen Bundschuh, is the defendant's intention to degrade his victim, indicating a deep-rooted resentment stemming from their unhappy marriage in Somalia.
- The woman, who lives in Germany, has been left scarred both physically and emotionally by the traumatic attempted murder incident in Aschaffenburg.
