Magnificent opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris is expected

The spectacular opening ceremony of the Paris Summer Olympics begins on a Friday with a procession on the Seine. Around 7000 athletes, both male and female, will be rowing down the Parisian river. German flag bearers are basketball player Dennis Schroeder and judoka Anna-Maria Wagner. During the nearly four-hour ceremony, singers like Celine Dion and Aya Nakamura are expected to perform, in front of an audience of approximately 100 state and government heads, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

Approximately 3000 actors and dancers are involved in the show designed by director Thomas Jolly. Anticipation builds as to who will ultimately light the Olympic flame with the torch that has been carried through all of France since May 8th. In Paris, around 326,000 spectators will watch the opening ceremony on tribunes along the banks and on bridges, while over a billion viewers worldwide are expected to watch on their screens.
