Presidential election - Maduro confirmed as President of Venezuela in election
Venezuela's authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro has been re-elected in the Presidential election of the crisis-stricken South American state, according to official reports. Maduro obtained 51.2% of the votes, as announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The international community has heavily criticized the legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro's re-election in Caracas, given the ongoing political and economic crisis in Venezuela. Many opposition leaders and international organizations viewed the election as a sham and refused to participate. Despite the controversy, Maduro's government has claimed victory and is preparing for another term in office.
