Macron declares fresh voting in France
The French President's alliance experiences a significant setback in the European elections. Macron gets fewer votes than the right-wing populists from the National Rally. Consequently, Macron aims to let the French people choose their parliament once more - as a "show of confidence".
Following the undeniable triumph of the French right-wing populists in the European elections, President Emmanuel Macron has dissolved the National Assembly and declared early elections. He intends to allow the French population to "determine our parliamentary future via voting," said Macron. The parliamentary elections will occur on June 30th and July 7th, he declared.
"This decision is crucial and substantial, but it is primarily a gesture of faith," highlighted Macron. "I have listened to your message and your worries and will not disregard them," he stated to the citizens.
Le Pen commended Macron's announcement. We are prepared to wield power in France if the RN earns the trust of the electorate.
The right-wing populists evidently came out on top in the French European elections, while Macron's camp was forced to accept a loss. The right-wing populist RN (National Rally) with the lead candidate Jordan Bardella is claimed to have obtained around 32% of the votes, based on the calculations of several polling institutions. The RN thereby received more than double the votes of the government party list, which amounts to approximately 15%.
Macron's post as head of state is not jeopardised by the new election of the National Assembly. The President of France is elected directly by the people.
