Lucid shows its new electric SUV Gravity
The US car manufacturer Lucid Motors has also been present in Germany with the Air electric saloon for several months. Now the Tesla competitor is presenting a second model series in Los Angeles. The electric SUV Gravity is set to have a range of over 700 kilometers.
Lucid Motors has now unveiled a second model series at the L.A. Auto Show (November 17 to 26) with the Gravity electric SUV. Visually and technically, the XL electric vehicle is closely related to the Air saloon, which is now also available in Germany.
The front is characterized by a narrow headlight unit that runs across the entire width. The door handles are flush with the sheet metal skin, while the greenhouse stretches in an arc across the body. Unlike the Air, however, the roof plateau of the Gravity is extended to end in a hatchback typical of a station wagon.
Hardly any buttons and switches
This creates space in the interior for three rows of seats. Alternatively, the storage space in the rear increases to around 3100 liters if required. In addition, the electric car has a frunk and can tow 2.7 tons.
The cockpit largely dispenses with buttons and switches. A curved 34-inch OLED display spans the dashboard area on the driver's side. A rectangular touchscreen with a 12.6-inch screen diagonal is located centrally in the center console and serves as a display and control unit for many vehicle and infotainment functions.
A range of over 700 kilometers
As with the Air, the Americans promise a 900-volt architecture and a range of over 700 kilometers. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h should be possible in 3.5 seconds. This roughly corresponds to the performance data of the Air Touring, which has a 462 kW/629 hp all-wheel drive and an 88 kWh battery for a range of around 680 kilometers.
The battery in the Gravity is likely to be larger. The 112 and 118 kWh formats offered for the Air would be conceivable here. When visiting 350 kW fast-charging stations, it should be possible to refuel with a range of 320 kilometers in 15 minutes.
Lucid Motors has announced the start of production of the Gravity for the end of 2024. Lucid has not yet revealed whether and when the e-SUV, which costs the equivalent of at least 74,000 euros, will officially come to Europe.
Lucid Motors, the US-American car manufacturer behind the Air electric saloon, is expanding its lineup with the Gravity electric SUV. The Gravity shares design elements with the Air and offers a hatchback with a large tailgate instead of a stepped saloon rear.
The second model series from Lucid Motors, the Gravity, aligns with its US-American origin as a car manufacturer. The brand has gained a presence in Germany with the Air and is now showcasing its versatility in Los Angeles with the electric SUV.
