Gambling - Lottery win - British midwife continues to work anyway

Despite winning the lottery ten years ago, Ruth Breen (45), a midwife from Britain, continues to hold onto her job. According to the British Press Association, she won one million pounds. "A lot has changed in the past ten years, and yet not as much", Breen reportedly said. The winnings allowed her to reduce her working hours.

Working part-time has given her more time with her daughter, "We've had wonderful holidays, but we've tried to stay grounded, and I believe work helps me do that", Breen added. Becoming a midwife was a challenging process, and she loves her job. She has no intention of giving it up and also wants to be a role model for her daughter.

"I don't go around announcing, 'By the way, I won a million ten years ago'", Breen revealed. She is treated just like any other midwife by patients and colleagues. In celebration of her lottery win anniversary, she is supporting a charitable project in Wigan, Manchester, that assists families with baby equipment.

Her first purchase after the lottery win? They were Jimmy Choo designer shoes. "I almost cried when I paid for them in Selfridges because I couldn't believe I had the money for it. It was overwhelming", Breen said. "My collection is a bit larger now. I don't cry as much!"

Despite her lottery win, Ruth Breen's love for her job as a midwife in Great Britain stayed strong. The win from the games of chance allowed her to engage in occasional gambling, such as buying lottery tickets, but she maintains a balanced approach towards gambling within society. Ten years on, Breen is using her lottery winnings to support charitable causes, contributing to a project that provides baby equipment for families in Wigan, Manchester.
