notfalls - Looking for missing swimmer in Berzdorfer See
With numerous helpers, a search is being conducted at Berzdorfer See for a missing swimmer. The man had gone into the water on Sunday morning to swim the lake from north to south, according to the Görlitz Police Headquarters in response to an inquiry. This is approximately a 5 kilometer stretch. In the afternoon, helpers from Wasserwacht, Wasser schutzpolizei, and Feuerwehr searched for the man. The lake is 960 hectares in size and located south of Görlitz. It originated from a former brown coal mining pit and is now a popular recreational area.
The missing swimmer had brought his own leisure equipment for the swim, including a life vest. Despite the ongoing search on Sunday, an emergency call was made later in the day when his equipment was found abandoned near the shore. After the incident, the local authorities of Saxony decided to increase safety measures at the Berzdorfer See, a popular leisure spot, especially during summer weekends in Görlitz.
