London: An estimated 70,000 Russians killed in Ukraine
According to British estimates, around 70,000 Russians have been killed in the war of aggression against Ukraine. According to the British Ministry of Defense, this includes 50,000 regular soldiers and 20,000 members of the Wagner private army. The number of wounded between the start of the war on February 24, 2022 and the end of November 2023 is estimated in London at 180,000 to 240,000 soldiers and 40,000 Wagner fighters.
"This gives an estimated total range of 290,000 to 350,000 casualties among Russian combatants. The median estimate is a total of 320,000 Russian casualties," it continued. Exact figures are difficult to obtain. Even in Russia, the total number of dead and wounded is probably not known, as there is an established culture of dishonest reporting within the military. The authority did not provide any information on Ukrainian casualties.
According to NATO estimates from the end of November, the number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded has exceeded the 300,000 mark. In the summer, the "New York Times" reported 120,000 Russian soldiers killed and 170,000 to 180,000 wounded, citing US government officials. For Ukraine, they spoke of around 70,000 soldiers killed and 100,000 to 120,000 wounded.
Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine in February 2022, the British Ministry of Defense has published daily information on the course of the war. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
