- Liza Minnelli writes her memoirs
Legendary American entertainer Liza Minnelli (78) is set to put her colorful life story on paper. U.S. publisher Grand Central Publishing has announced the singer and actress' memoirs for spring 2026. Minnelli will provide a personal glimpse into her life, from her childhood in the spotlight as the daughter of actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli, to her own career, and her tumultuous marriages and struggles with addiction.
Previously, she thought a book about her life should only come out after her death, but she has since changed her mind, Minnelli writes in a statement. Among the reasons are a film and miniseries that did not accurately portray her life. She also cites her appearance at the 2022 Oscars, where she was wheeled onto the stage in a wheelchair to present an award.
All of this has made her very angry, she says, and she wants to tell her "own damn story." Despite the highs and lows, she is a happy woman who still has it and loves life. Her longtime close friend, pianist and singer Michael Feinstein (67), will support her in the writing process.
Minnelli, a multitalented artist, is part of the elite group of "EGOT" winners - those who have won all four major entertainment awards - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. The musical film "Cabaret," in which she played a nightclub singer in 1930s Berlin, brought her worldwide success and an Oscar for Best Actress. Her private life, with four failed marriages and struggles with addiction, has been turbulent for decades.
Minnelli's memoirs, set to be published in 2026, will offer a behind-the-scenes look at her time in the 'Theatre', as she recounts her role in the acclaimed musical film "Cabaret." After feeling misrepresented in previous productions, she is now eager to share her own experiences and perspectives in her own 'Theatre' of words.
