Lisa Paus after budget agreement: Basic child protection is coming

The traffic light has agreed on a budget for 2024. Family Minister Paus assumes that her main project, basic child protection, will remain in place. She is also presenting a strategy against loneliness today.

Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus has praised the agreement reached by the coalition leaders on the budget. It is good that the coalition has managed to reach an agreement, said the Green politician in the early start of ntv. "The traffic light coalition is capable of acting and we can now send a clear signal to the whole country." A lot depends on the budget, especially in the economy, and everyone needs planning security. "That's why we are all very happy that this breakthrough has now been achieved."

Paus does not assume that there will be any cuts to the basic child protection scheme in the budget. The project is in the parliamentary consultation process. "And yes, basic child protection will come, basic child protection was not even up for debate." Postponing the start date would not save any money, said Paus. The fact that the Federal Government had issued a statement on a possible postponement was not for budgetary reasons. Rather, the employment agency and the Federal Council had asked the ministry to think about the timetable.

The Minister also assumes that the newly proposed upper limits of 200,000 euros and then 175,000 euros for parental allowance will not change. "As far as I know, there are no new developments, no changes."

Paus will present the first German government strategy against loneliness to the cabinet today, Wednesday. It is important to get the topic of loneliness out of the taboo zone, she said in the early start. Those affected would not go out on the street, talk about their problem and ask for help. "That's why it's very important that we look together as a society at these millions of people."

Even before the coronavirus pandemic, one in ten people were affected by loneliness, but the situation has changed completely since then. That is why the government's strategy has now been written. "We are raising awareness throughout society, we are also taking care, we are improving the structures." In future, better research will be carried out, local structures will be strengthened and a loneliness barometer will report regularly on the situation. The aim is to tell those affected that loneliness is not a fate that has to be accepted.

Paus praised the fact that there is a government commissioner for loneliness in the UK and a ministry for loneliness in Japan. This would allow targeted measures to be developed.
