Lindner ends electricity and gas price brakes
Following the budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, the state electricity and gas price brakes will no longer be extended until March 2024 as planned. They will "end at the end of the year", Federal Finance Minister Lindner told Deutschlandfunk radio.
The state electricity and gas price brakes will no longer be extended until March 2024, but will expire at the end of the year. Federal Finance Minister Christian Linder said this on Deutschlandfunk radio. Lindner explained that the economic and stabilization fund, from which the energy subsidies have been financed to date, is no longer available following the ruling from Karlsruhe.
"The economic and stabilization fund will be closed on 31 December of this year," said Lindner. "No more payments will be made from it. The electricity and gas price brakes will also be terminated at the end of the year."
Lindner left open the question of whether this will also mean that the reduction in grid fees for the coming year will be discontinued. In any case, they would no longer be financed from the stabilization fund and everything else would now have to be clarified in the budget process for 2024.
The expiration of the electricity and gas price brakes aligns with the end of the year, as mentioned by Federal Finance Minister Lindner. This decision comes due to the depletion of the economic and stabilization fund, which was previously used to finance the energy subsidies.
