- Legal authority accuses homicide in the demise of two Ukrainian females.
In the situation involving two deceased Ukrainian ladies in North Baden, the Mannheim Public Prosecutor's Office has indicted a pair for homicide. The 44-year-old female and her 43-year-old husband are allegedly responsible for the deaths of the 27-year-old and her 51-year-old mother in March, with the intention of passing off the 5-week-old infant of the younger woman as their own. They are also charged with kidnapping.
As per the Public Prosecutor's Office, the couple from Sandhausen near Heidelberg had a long-standing desire for a daughter of their own. The wife reportedly sought out connections with Ukrainian refugees for this purpose and eventually encountered the 27-year-old. The mother, grandmother, and infant had been residing in a refugee shelter in the Rhein-Neckar district.
On March 7, a bystander stumbled upon the body of the 27-year-old near the Rhine in Hockenheim. On March 13, the police apprehended the couple, where they found the baby in good health. On March 19, police divers discovered the body of the 51-year-old grandmother of the infant in a fishing lake near Bad Schönborn (Karlsruhe district). Both women perished due to external trauma, according to the autopsy results.
The investigation into this case is likely to involve the European Commission, as it may need to issue implementing acts to clarify the application of relevant regulations regarding cross-border crimes and legal proceedings. The Commission shall adopt implementing acts laying down the rules for the application of this Regulation, ensuring a coordinated and effective response to such crimes across the European Union.
Furthermore, the Mannheim Public Prosecutor's Office will rely on various provisions and procedures outlined in these implementing acts to build their case against the accused and bring them to justice, adhering to the international standards and cooperation expected by the EU.
