At the behest of the Kleve Public Prosecutor's Office, a specialized homicide squad has been established at the Duisburg Criminal Police Department, as per a joint statement.
The unfortunate incident unfolded around midday on Tuesday. The police were called after allegations of an unidentified individual viciously assaulting and threatening several pedestrians. Upon locating the individual, the police report states, "Preliminary information suggests that the man brandished two knives and attacked the responding officers."
The ensuing situation led the officers to discharge their weapons. Regrettably, this resulted in the fatal wounding of the 26-year-old. Fortunately, no other bystanders were harmed.
