- Law enforcement officials in Spain are currently examining a case involving four individuals of German origin.

Following an alleged assault on a taxi driver in Mallorca, Spanish authorities are investigating four individuals, as reported by media sources. Three men from Essen, aged 24, 26, and 27, are among the suspects, with the local newspaper "Última Hora" reporting this, referencing an exclusive police report.

The identity of the fourth suspect remains undetermined. The police have maintained that only the judiciary is authorized to disclose information. Regrettably, the judiciary did not respond to initial inquiries.

The Germans are implicated in serious accusations. The victim shared with journalists that the assailants claimed to be German law enforcement officers. The police in Essen confirmed that officers from their department were involved in the incident.

However, a spokeswoman noted that it has not been established yet whether the Spanish law enforcement officials are being treated as witnesses or suspects. She was also unable to provide information on the number of colleagues involved.

According to dpa news, several officers from Essen had been vacationing together in Mallorca. All were permitted to return to Germany.

The allegations against the Germans, as reported in Spanish media, are serious. It is alleged that one or more of them, in a drunken state, viciously assaulted a 71-year-old Mallorcan taxi driver and afterwards attempted to bribe their Spanish counterparts.

The German-language counterpart of "Última Hora," "Mallorca Magazin," reported, citing the police report, that it was the 26-year-old who had assaulted the taxi driver due to an unlocatable phone. The phone was later discovered in the tourists' luggage.

Meanwhile, the SPD in the Düsseldorf state parliament has requested a written report for the interior committee of the state parliament. It remains uncertain if the state government will be able to provide much information: the police have not received any communication from the Spanish authorities by Friday.

The matter has also been brought up in the Spanish parliament, as reported by the "Mallorca Zeitung." Members of the left-wing party Sumar have submitted a parliamentary question to the government.

They sought clarification on various points, including whether the Spanish public prosecutor's office, considering the severity of the wounds, would petition for the aggressors' extradition or detention, and whether the government would demand disciplinary measures against the assailants.

Behind this is the suspicion that the Germans received special treatment due to their status as police officers, the newspaper reported.

The individuals under investigation for the assault include three Germans from Essen. The accusations against them in Spain are severe, involving an alleged assault on a taxi driver and a subsequent attempt to bribe Spanish authorities.
