- Law Enforcement Officers: associates implicated in Mallorca occurrence
After an alleged incident involving a taxi driver in Mallorca, the Essen police have acknowledged that some of their personnel were involved. However, their spokesperson clarified that it's undecided whether these officers will be labeled as witnesses or suspects. Regrettably, they couldn't disclose the exact number of officers involved. As per dpa, multiple officers from Essen were vacationing in Mallorca simultaneously, and at least two of them are under suspicion. They've all been permitted to return to Germany.
Previously, Spanish police reports indicated a disagreement between the German tourists and the taxi driver (71) concerning a lost phone. Upon being hospitalized, the injured taxi driver severely criticized the Germans, stating, "I believed they were going to murder me. I'm astonished at how my body managed to endure the assault," as quoted in "Mallorca Zeitung."
In the meantime, the SPD in the Düsseldorf state parliament has petitioned for a written account to be submitted to the state parliament's interior committee. However, it's uncertain if the state government can share substantial information, given that the police have yet to receive any updates from the Spanish authorities.
