Law enforcement in Brandenburg nabbed a wanted murder suspect

A convict, who was locked up for murdering two individuals back in 1995, was a regular resident of Berlin-Tegel prison. On Thursdays, he'd take advantage of his freedom outside the prison walls, only to be caught by the cops within two days.

After serving nearly two decades, this 50-year-old inmate was apprehended once again by the police in the neighborhood of Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten, Berlin, on a Saturday night. The encounter was reportedly peaceful with no resistance from the fugitive, as per police reports. There were rumors of a tip-off from the locals in Märkisch-Oderland district earlier.

The Department of Justice confirmed that this inmate was handed a life sentence for the double murder in 1995. However, they declined to disclose further details about the crime. According to the Berlin Prosecutor's Office, the sentencing took place in the city's main court in November 2001.

The authorities stated that the man had not come back from his Thursday afternoon outing. Interestingly, it was since 2005 that he had been permitted to leave the prison unescorted on regular occasions. The outing that led to his disappearance was therefore a first for him.
