Law enforcement in Brandenburg apprehended a wanted murderer.
A man, convicted and serving life for two murders in 1995, frequently gets temporary freedom from Berlin-Tegel prison on Thursdays. However, his brief escapes always end prematurely.
This time around, the police apprehended him two days after his latest escape. They escorted him back to Berliner Tegel prison.
As reported by the police spokesperson, the 50-year-old man was captured by officers from the Brandenburg police on Saturday night in the Berlin neighborhood of Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten, at approximately 11 pm. He did not put up a fight. It seems the locals in the Märkisch-Oderland district had provided a tip-off, according to "Bild" newspaper.
The man, as per the Justice Administration, committed the two murders in 1995 and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment. The Justice spokesperson did not disclose additional information. According to the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office, the sentencing took place in Berlin in November 2001.
He failed to return to the prison after his outing on Thursday afternoon. The Justice Administration and police stated that his unescorted outing on that day was the first one granted to him since 2005, as he had previously been escorted during his prison breaks.
