Law enforcement advocates for balance in Siegen

After a knife assault on a bus in Siegen, numerous individuals endure injuries, with six being severely harmed. Surprisingly, the perpetrator, a 32-year-old German lady with no migrant background, fails to meet the typical suspect profile. Consequently, the authorities have pleaded for patience in evaluating this case, refraining from speculations and prejudices.

The suspect launched an attack against fellow bus passengers on a Friday evening in Siegen-Eiserfeld, resulting in six injured individuals, three of whom are critically wounded. As reported by the police and prosecutor, no indications of a politically or religiously motivated assault have arisen. Instead, the woman exhibited signs of mental instability.

The victims span an age range of 16 to 30 years old, hailing from the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. The bus was heading towards a city festivity, carrying approximately 30 other passengers.

In the aftermath of the attack, North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister, Herbert Reul, called for unity. Addressing WDR, the CDU politician stated that it is crucial "that we don't succumb to fear and blame, but instead, we stay strong and stand together." Reul was already planning to attend the city festivity.

A similar knife attack at a city festivity in Solingen transpired last week, resulting in three fatalities and eight injured individuals, some seriously. The presumed culprit, a 26-year-old Syrian, was apprehended. The federal prosecutor's office suspects an Islamist background, fuelling ongoing discussions about deportations and knife bans.

The police and the prosecutor are continuously investigating the woman's actions, as no evidence of a motivate behind the attack has been found. Despite the severe injuries, the police have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain peace and safety in the city.
