Latest Updates in visionOS 2

During WWDC 2024, Apple revealed what's in store for their Vision Pro headset's visionOS 2 update, slated for release this year. The update introduces a range of new features centering around productivity, spatial photography, and transport operations.

Enhanced Productivity with visionOS 2

Among the key updates is the inclusion of new productivity tools like creating dual 4K virtual displays, similar to an ultrawide display. Additionally, mouse support is expected to be introduced, in addition to the physical Magic Keyboard that Apple already offers. With this update, users will also have access to new hand gestures for the Control Center, displaying current time, battery levels, and volume adjustments.

Photos App - Spatial Photography in visionOS 2

VisionOS 2 will feature the ability to create spatial photos within the Photos app. Advanced machine learning will convert regular 2D images into stunning spatial photos. With SharePlay enabled in the Photos app, users can view their spatial photos and videos together with friends and their Spatial Personas.

Travel Mode - Train Support in visionOS 2

The Vision Pro's Travel Mode initially only allowed for use on airplanes. However, with the visionOS 2 update, the headset will be compatible with trains, enabling the user to access their preferred apps while traveling. Furthermore, guests can now use your Vision Pro as a Guest User, saving their eye and hand data for 30 days.

Broader Launch for Apple Vision Pro

Alongside the many new features of visionOS 2, the rollout for the Apple Vision Pro is expanding. Starting June 12, the Vision Pro will launch in Canada, Australia, France, Germany, and the UK, with pre-orders starting at 5 a.m. PT on June 28. Simultaneously, the headset will be made available in mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore, with pre-orders opening at 6 p.m. PT on June 13.

Timeline for visionOS 2

The visionOS 2 update is scheduled to hit all Apple Vision Pro users for free in the fall. The headset currently includes visionOS 1.2.
