accident - Later travels on Middle Leaning board: A7 closed for hours
A tank truck crashed onto the median strip of the A7 motorway near Kassel on a Wednesday evening, causing extensive damage estimated in the six-figure range. The incident led to hours-long closures in both directions, according to a police spokesperson in Nordhessen.
Prior to the crash, the 49-year-old driver reportedly lost control of the truck for unknown reasons. The truck cab was damaged, but not the tank itself. The driver was unharmed.
The complex recovery operation of the tank truck required only one lane to be open on the A7 in northerly direction for approximately one and a half hours; the motorway was closed entirely in southerly direction for three hours and partially for eight and a half hours. This resulted in traffic jams.
The accident involving the tank truck occurred in the same region as Hesse's city, Kassel. Due to the tank laster accident on the A7, there were numerous traffic disruptions and accidents. After the recovery operation, traffic flow returned to normal in Hesse, alleviating the congestion on the roads.
