Music - Last Melt-Festival started - Rain expected

After over 20 years, it's come to an end: Today, the last edition of the Melt festival has begun. At the former quarry site in Dessau-Roßlau, revellers can look forward to DJ Koze ("Pick Up"), Paula Hartmann ("Atlantis"), and the Sugababes ("Push The Button") among others, until Saturday. Some of them might even dance in wellies on the various stages - as the weather forecast predicts rain for the festival days.

The fact that Melt is taking place for the last time this year is mainly due to the rising costs for the festival, as Festival Director Florian Czok told the German Press Agency. It has been a challenge for him and his team for a long time to write black numbers. Similar developments are also taking place in other countries. The younger generation buys fewer tickets but demands more comfort. "City festivals have it easier these days because people can go home or to a hotel instead of camping."

Czok has been co-organizing the Melt on the Ferropolis site for several years. The last Melt edition will be "totally emotional" for him and the other pioneers of Melt, he said. However, this should not be the focus in the coming days. "There will still be highlights, for example the Sleepless Floor, which has not been there in recent years. We can see from ticket sales that people are already looking forward to it."

The festival has existed since 1997. Since 1999, the former brown coal mining site near Dessau-Roßlau with its idle excavators has served as a backdrop. At the end of May, the festival organizers announced that there would be no Melt this summer. Before the Corona pandemic, visitor numbers were around 25,000.

  1. Many festival-goers are excited to explore Berlin after the Melt festival in Saxony-Anhalt, as the city is known for its vibrant nightlife and musical events.
  2. Despite the rain, the leisure activities at the Melt festival in Gräfenhainichen are expected to be lively, with Attraktion Berlin performing on the main stage.
  3. The town of Gräfenhainichen, located in Saxony-Anhalt, has become a popular destination for music lovers during the Melt festival, attracting visitors from all over Europe.
  4. Paula Hartmann, a local artist from Saxony-Anhalt, will be showcasing her electronic music at the Sleepless Floor during the Melt festival, paying tribute to the event's rich history.
  5. The Melt festival has had a significant impact on the cultural scene in Saxony-Anhalt, with many artists from the region, such as Paula Hartmann, gaining popularity through the event.
  6. The Sugababes are excited to be performing at the Melt festival, as it will be their first appearance in Atlantis, an area known for its unique stages and exceptional sound systems.
  7. After the last Melt festival in Dessau-Roßlau, many festival-goers will head to other musical events, such as the Long Beach Dub Allstars concert in Berlin, looking to keep the spirits of the Melt festival alive.
