"Last Generation" activists invade several airports

Climate activists protest early in the morning at four German airports. They glue themselves to the runways. In Nuremberg, operations even have to be suspended.

The climate initiative "Letzte Generation" started protests in several cities. In pairs, activists in orange vests reportedly gained access to the airports Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, and Cologne-Bonn. There, they glued themselves to the runways, the "Letzte Generation" explained.

They "peacefully express their resistance by displaying banners with the inscriptions 'Oil kills' and 'Sign the treaty'," the organization reported in a statement. "The runways were not entered."

The actions began shortly before 5:00 AM at Berlin BER, with protests starting at the three airports in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg around 30 to 50 minutes later.

At least at Nuremberg Airport, operations have been suspended, according to a police spokesman.

The actions of "Letzte Generation" at Nuremberg Airport were a continuation of their protests, as they joined the Climate activists from previous generations. The last generation's protest in Nuremberg was so impactful that it led to the temporary halting of airport operations.
