3. Anniversary - Landtag remembers victims of the flood disaster
The Landtag will commemorate the victims of the 2021 floods with a symbolic act on Sunday: A photo of the disaster with words from Landtag President André Kuper is expected to be displayed on the large screen in front of the parliament building, according to a spokesperson. "The flood disaster three years ago left deep scars in North Rhine-Westphalia," said Kuper on the anniversary.
"Many people lost their lives, relatives or possessions. We, the members of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag, mourn for the deceased and empathize with the bereaved. We stand by the affected and keep the memory alive," emphasized Kuper.
The Landtag President added: "The many selfless volunteers from all over the country deserve our gratitude for their tireless efforts. They are role models and have shown how citizens came together in one of the darkest hours of our country."
In the Landtag, the investigative committee "Flood Disaster" is working on processing the events that began on the night of July 14-15, 2021. Alone in Nordrhein-Westfalen, 49 people died as a result of the disaster.
The commemoration event in North Rhine-Westphalia's State Parliament on Sunday will include a display of a photo and a message from President André Kuper, in remembrance of the 'Flute Disaster' three years ago.
André Kuper, in his address on the anniversary, stated that the flood disaster of 2021 left deep scars in North Rhine-Westphalia, with many lives, relatives, and possessions lost.
During the event, President Kuper will also pay tribute to the selfless volunteers who responded to the 'disaster' in Düsseldorf and other parts of the state, praising their tireless efforts and unity.
Despite the anniversary marking three years since the 'Flute Disaster', the investigative committee "Flood Disaster" in the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia is still working diligently to process the events that unfolded on that fateful night in July 2021.
