Krah responds: "Mistaken direction, yet I acknowledge it."
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party won't be sending their own leader to the European Parliament. Maximilian Krah, who was recently expelled from the AfD delegation, is convinced that they won't be readmitted to the Identity and Democracy (ID) faction again. "Then the cards will be shuffled," he said angrily.
After being removed from the AfD delegation in the new European Parliament, controversial MP Maximilian Krah has no plans to join a right-wing faction on his own right now. "My colleagues think they'll go back to ID and that they have better chances if they drop me. I think that's a mistake, but I respect it," he told "Politico."
Krah intends to observe this attempt from an observer position. "I'm telling you now: It will fail. Then the cards will be shuffled again."
The AfD was on the verge of expulsion from the ID faction before the European election. One of the reasons was controversial statements made by AfD lead candidate Krah about the SS. Another issue involved an aide of Krah being accused of being a China spy. Krah added that the AfD in the EU Parliament should only form a new faction together. There are many new, right-wing parties in the Parliament, he said, and they are not dirty. "We should have the courage to reach out to these parties that are currently approaching the AfD."
On Monday, the future AfD MEPs voted on a resolution not to include lead candidate Krah in the delegation. This means that there will be 15 AfD politicians in the new European Parliament, but the delegation currently has only 14 members. The AfD received 15.9% in the German European election on Sunday.
