Upcoming European voting events - Krah not included in the latest AfD group for the European Parliament.
An AfD politician, Maximilian Krah, won't be part of the AfD's European Parliament delegation. The newly-elected MPs voted on a motion excluding him at their constituent meeting, as Krah himself confirmed.
Krah has faced scrutiny surrounding possible ties to pro-Russian networks and potentially China. His controversial comments about the Nazi SS have also raised eyebrows. As a result, the ID faction in the European Parliament had previously excluded the AfD.
On a day when AfD chairwomen Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla met with the newly-elected MPs in Berlin to build the AfD's future EU Parliament group and appoint its leadership, Weidel hinted at a positive outcome, saying, "It's about the structures of the group, and I think we'll come out of here with a very good result."
Weidel and Chrupalla shared details about Maximilian Krah and Petr Bystron, the top two candidates on the AfD list, but said the delegation would have the final say regarding their roles. Earlier, Chrupalla mentioned these matters at a press conference planned for later in the day.
Taking a break from the consultation, Krah spoke to journalists, expressing his feelings on potentially not being included in the delegation: "I'd find that not particularly friendly, and it wouldn't stop me from working loudly and successfully for this party in the European Parliament." Krah proclaims credit for the party's success among young voters.
The AfD obtained 15.9% in the recent German European election and will be represented by 15 MEPs in the upcoming parliament.
