Society - King Charles and Idris Elba against youth violence

At a meeting in London, King Charles III and Hollywood actor Idris Elba drew attention to issues facing young people in Britain. The focus was on youth violence.

"This is the moment for change and not for speeches," said the 51-year-old actor ("Luther") at the reception at St. James's Palace. The topic only gains attention when a teenager is killed, he lamented. But the country wants constant change.

Invitees to the meeting included members of the King's Trust. Elba had received 1500 pounds (1786 Euro) of support from the foundation, which was called The Prince's Trust before Charles' accession to the throne, to visit a youth theatre school as a teenager. The actor is particularly committed to combating knife violence. Every year, numerous teenagers in England are killed by other young people.

"Keep your voices alive"

"I am the product of an intervention," said Elba. At the age of 15, he had been given a chance in the form of a drama teacher. "Each one of you in this room is an instrument of intervention," said Elba. He urged the young people to "keep your voices alive."

New Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that young people have the right to pressure his government with measures that improve their lives. Politicians must take responsibility, and young people have the right to say, "Sort it out," said Starmer.

Idris Elba, known for his role in "Luther," expressed his concern about youth violence in the United Kingdom during the meeting at St. James's Palace. His sentiments were echoed by King Charles III, who also highlighted the importance of addressing this issue in society. Elba, a recipient of support from The Prince's Trust as a teenager, stressed the role of intervention in combating knife violence, particularly in London. Adel, among the attendees, shared Elba's commitment to this cause, as numerous youths in England fall victim to criminality each year. New Prime Minister Keir Starmer underscored the responsibility of politicians to listen to and act on the demands of young people, encouraging them to keep advocating for change.
