Kim escalated strategic military actions within North Korea
It seems like North Korea is amplifying its military strengths. Amid rising tension on the Korean Peninsula, Kim Jong Un oversees a trial of drone technology. As per a report by state news agency KCNA, North Korea's chief executive urged for the enhancement of drone production for infantry tactical units and special forces.
Over the weekend, Pyongyang witnessed a test run of domestically developed drones, with official images showcasing white, X-winged drones targeting and exploding on replica South Korean K-2 tank targets.
The nation's ambition lies in augmenting its tactical warfare prowess through the development of innovative drone systems. Despite United Nations sanctions, North Korea has managed to progress its prohibited nuclear weapons program and conduct numerous tests over the years.
"Cue for a nuclear showdown"
The weapons trial unfolds during heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula. The US and South Korean forces are currently executing a large-scale joint military exercise as a deterrent towards North Korea. North Korea's foreign ministry denounced these military exercises as "provocative war games" and a "preview for a nuclear showdown." The US and South Korea dismiss Pyongyang's accusations.
For the past two years, North Korea has intensified its rocket tests and escalated its antagonistic rhetoric against both the US and South Korea. Moreover, it has strengthened its military ties with Russia.
A trove of nuclear-capable missile launchers
Recently, North Korea handed over 250 nuclear-capable missile launchers to its military. With these weapons, the frontline troops would possess an overpowering artillery against South Korea, claimed Kim, as reported by KCNA. Kim called for the expansion of North Korea's military capabilities as a countermovement against the US's alliance with its neighboring countries.
North Korea has expanded its inventory of portable short-range weapons aimed at overwhelming South Korea's missile defense while also developing intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of striking the US mainland. Kim's frequent weapon trials and threats are generally perceived as an attempt to influence the US into acknowledging North Korea as a nuclear power and lifting the sanctions that pressure the country into relinquishing its nuclear weapons.
South and North Korea remain divided since the Korean War (1950-53), and they have yet to ratify a peace treaty.
In response to the US and South Korea's joint military exercises, North Korea's foreign ministryissued a stern warning, labeling them as a "preview for a nuclear showdown."
Given the situation, it's not surprising that North Korea recently added 250 nuclear-capable missile launchers to its military arsenal, further strengthening its stance towards South Korea.
