Film Festival - Kate Winslet's appeal to women: You are phenomenal

With a passionate appeal to women for more pride and self-confidence, Kate Winslet stirred up applause at the Munich Film Festival. "Stop wasting any more of your precious, precious energy on shame for your body. Question not how you look, you're all phenomenal," the 48-year-old called out to the round about 1500 guests in the German Theater after receiving the festival's honorary award, the CineMerit Award.

A thank you from David Kross

Beforehand, David Kross ("Kafka") had given the laudation for the British actress who became a star in 1997 with the cult film "Titanic." Kross and Winslet had acted together in the film "The Reader" from 2008 - it was about the relationship between a 15-year-old and a 20-years older woman, and brought Winslet an Oscar. "I am very grateful for how you helped me feel comfortable during these very intimate scenes," Kross thanked, who was only 17 years old during filming. "You gave me a safe place and helped me understand the process," with patience and especially a lot of humor.

Film about war photographer premieres

After the award ceremony, Winslet's new film "The Photographer" had its European premiere. The British actress produced the film and also plays the lead role of Lee Miller. The American woman (1907-1977) managed to become a war reporter at the front despite great opposition during the Second World War. She witnessed the liberation of the concentration camps in Buchenwald and Dachau and took pictures of great historical value. The film is set to start in cinemas on September 26.

On Sunday evening, Jessica Lange had already received an unpaid CineMerit Award, which this year has the stylized form of a wave, among other things, in reference to the Isar in Munich. The film festival shows around 150 films from all over the world until July 7. Another honorary guest is Viggo Mortensen ("Greenbook"). He will present the Western "The Dead Don't Hurt" on Thursday, which is set to come to German cinemas on August 8.
