Kamala Harris secures the Democratic presidential nomination

Kamala Harris is the Democratic Party's presidential candidate for the November elections. She will then face off against Donald Trump.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly secured enough delegate votes to be named the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, according to the party's national committee. DNC Chair Jamie Harrison announced that Harris has received a majority of the delegates' votes for the convention.

A virtual vote on the presidential nomination began on Thursday and was originally set to end on Monday. However, Harris' campaign team announced today that the 59-year-old has surpassed the threshold of delegate votes. So far, over 2,350 delegates have voted for Harris.

Harris herself stated that she feels honored to be the presumptive nominee. However, this will be made official next week.

Despite her new status, Kamala Harris clarified, "I'm not assuming the role of president yet." After her campaign surpassed the required delegate votes, Harris noted, "I'm not taking victory for granted."
