Kamala Harris is running for vice president with Tim Walz.

After discussions with at least six candidates, Harris has decided: Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, will join her as vice president in the race for the White House.

Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris is reportedly set to run with the Governor of the state of Minnesota. Tim Walz will be her candidate for the vice presidency, according to US media reports.

Walz, a former soldier and teacher, has proven his ability to appeal to rural, white voters despite his governorship, which includes initiatives like free school meals and expanded paid leave for workers. Minnesota is expected to vote for the Democrats, bordering the crucial states of Wisconsin and Michigan.

Insiders had already reported on Monday that Harris had narrowed her search for a vice presidential candidate to two men. Alongside Walz, the Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, was also in the running, according to three sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters.

Observers see this choice as one of Harris' most important decisions ahead of the presidential election on November 5: the vice candidate should ideally appeal to voter segments that may not strongly resonate with Harris herself - a woman, a black, and Asian-American person. According to insiders, Harris' shortlist consisted exclusively of white men capable of winning over rural, white, or independent voters.

The Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris is reportedly considering Pennsylvania's Governor, Josh Shapiro, as her potential vice president. The Democrats are confident that Minnesota, with its border to crucial states like Wisconsin and Michigan, will support their presidential candidate.
