Kamala Harris has enough votes for nomination as candidate
Vice President Kamala Harris of the US has gained sufficient supporters among Democratic delegates to officially declare her presidential candidacy at the party convention in August.
According to an AP survey, Harris convinced a significant number of democratic delegates of her presidency bid just one day after Joe Biden's withdrawal. For her official nomination at the August party convention, she needs 1969 votes. As per AP's survey, Harris currently has 2538 votes. The number of undecided delegates is currently at 57.
The official nomination takes place at the Democratic Party convention in Chicago from August 19-22. She requires a simple majority of 3936 delegates (1969 votes) for a first-round nomination.
The current survey is unofficial as democratic delegates are free to vote for any candidate in the official election. However, the support of over 2500 delegates is considered a strong indicator of Harris' frontrunner status within the party.
