- Judgment awaited in the murder trial of high school senior
A verdict is expected today (at 3:30 PM) in the trial of a student accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend. This was announced by a spokesperson for Heidelberg Regional Court. The closing arguments were reportedly presented in the morning. The spokesperson made no comments on the demands of the prosecution, defense, and civil party. The public is excluded from the proceedings.
The 18-year-old has admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend, as previously stated by the spokesperson. The prosecution alleges that on January 25, the German national stabbed the equally aged student to death at their shared school in St. Leon-Rot, near Heidelberg, using a kitchen knife. He is said to have stabbed her multiple times, including in the neck and chest. She died at the scene, in a common room.
Heavy traffic accident in Lower Saxony while fleeing from police
The young man reportedly fled in a car and caused a serious accident in Seesen, Lower Saxony. Both the defendant and another man were injured. Since then, the 18-year-old has been in custody. He is also charged with dangerous bodily harm due to this accident.
The trial is now ending sooner than expected. Originally, the court had scheduled dates for the trial until August 15.
The trial is taking place under the Youth Court Act, excluding the public, because a bodily injury from November 2023 is also part of the indictment. At that time, the alleged perpetrator is said to have punched the later deceased student. At that time, he was still 17 years old and therefore a minor.
Despite the original trial dates extending until August 15, unforeseen circumstances have led to an accelerated conclusion. This unexpected ending is taking place in Germany, specifically at the Youth Court in Heidelberg.
The young man, who is currently in custody for causing a heavy traffic accident in Lower Saxony, is also being tried for his involvement in a bodily injury incident that occurred in Germany, specifically in November 2023.
