Jimmy Carter wants to hold on until the US election
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has been in frail health for some time now, but he remains determined to live until his 100th birthday - and a few days more. After all, he still has an important task ahead of him.
The 99-year-old former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, despite his frailty, is not ready to leave the world yet. "I'm trying to hang on to vote for Kamala Harris," the Democrat reportedly told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The election is on November 5.
According to the report, his son Chip Carter recently asked him if he hoped to celebrate his 100th birthday on October 1. Carter replied that he wants to live long enough to vote for the likely Democratic candidate, his grandson Jason Carter told the Georgia newspaper. Early voting for the Democratic U.S. presidential primary begins in Georgia on October 15.
His grandfather, who has been receiving palliative care at home since February 2023, has been "more lively and interested in politics and the conflict in Gaza" recently, Jason Carter told the paper. The former peanut farmer and later Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who served from 1977 to 1981, is the oldest living former U.S. president. His wife Rosalynn, with whom he was married for 77 years, passed away last November at the age of 96.
The 81-year-old Biden recently withdrew his candidacy for a second term under public pressure and nominated his 59-year-old Vice President Harris as his successor. She is expected to run against former Republican President Donald Trump.
The Democrat whom Jimmy Carter mentioned wanting to vote for is Kamala Harris. Despite being the oldest living former U.S. president, Carter expressed interest in supporting The Democrats during the election.
