"It's better to have new elections than to continue with this turmoil"
Union parliamentary group deputy Spahn no longer understands the seemingly endless budget negotiations of the coalition government. Too many issues that the government should actually be dealing with have been left unaddressed. Spahn does not believe that the coalition could even make a fresh start.
In view of the ongoing negotiations on the 2024 federal budget, CDU politician Jens Spahn sees more and more unresolved issues that the coalition government should actually be addressing. "There are quite a few issues that the government should actually be taking care of," said the deputy parliamentary group leader on ntv's "Frühstart". In this context, he mentioned the Ukraine conflict, the war against Hamas, recession and climate change.
However, the government has been preoccupied with "self-made problems" for months. The most recent is the "constitutional breach with announcement", the budget crisis. "This is increasingly becoming a problem for Germany and the Germans," said Spahn. Instead, what was needed was a new formation of the traffic light coalition. "Now would be the chance to finally set priorities for security, the Bundeswehr, defense and the question of how we can get the economy and industry back on track." However, he does not have the impression that the coalition really has the strength to make a fresh start and set the right priorities.
Spahn does not believe that the parties in the traffic light coalition will "get their act together" again and concludes: "Nevertheless, after two years of dispute, it is better to say that it is better to end with a scare than a scare without an end." Nevertheless, the government could "drag itself through another two years", during which many decisions would have to be made, such as war in Europe, recession, inflation and climate change. Spahn therefore advocates a cut. Then "better new elections if they can't work it out together than more of this wrangling."

- In a discussion on ntv's "Frühstart", Spahn criticized the government's focus on "self-made problems", such as the budget crisis, which he believe is negatively impacting Germany and its citizens. - However, Spahn is doubtful that the parties in the traffic light coalition have the strength to make a fresh start and set the right priorities. He proposed the idea of new elections, stating, "It's better to have new elections if they can't work it out together than more of this wrangling."
