On the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia, a man has been concealing his deceased mother in a cooler for years, to keep her pension benefits flowing. The 54-year-old resident of Sarrroch is now facing charges of fraud and concealing a death.

The remains of the 78-year-old individual were found by authorities during an investigation, sparked by neighbors' growing unease over her prolonged absence. The cooler was situated on the ground level.

It's speculated that the woman has been deceased for around two years. She might have passed away during the COVID-19 outbreak, possibly due to naturally occurring reasons, as per news reports. An autopsy will help clarify the situation. The alleged fraud is said to have netted the son several thousand euros.
