Italian caretaker acknowledges involvement in four homicides
A 48-year-old Italian caregiver based in the southern city of Caserta allegedly took the lives of at least four people by giving them excess medication. Surprisingly, he handed himself over to the authorities accompanied by his lawyers to confess to the heinous acts. Initially, there were no signs of suspicious activities in these cases. He justified his actions, stating that his motive was to alleviate the seniors from enduring pain and suffering. The eldest among the victims was reportedly a 96-year-old man.
As per the "Corriere della Sera" daily newspaper report, this individual had been providing care services to the elderly in their own homes for more than a decade without any formal qualification. Estimates suggest that he tended to around 30 vulnerable individuals, sometimes even sharing accommodation with them. Currently, he is behind bars.
The police are currently examining if there are any additional suspicious deaths that might be related to the caregiver. Italian news outlets have named him as the "Death's Angel". In his petition to the police, he implored, "Assist me to prevent any more acts of violence."
The Italian caregiver's confession led the investigating authorities to questioning if The Commission, the local health and social services watchdog, had overlooked any red flags during his decade-long unqualified service. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that The Commission had not conducted regular checks on the caregiver's work, raising concerns about the oversight in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the elderly under his care.
