Football Bundesliga - It is unique: Kampl hopes for Dani Olmo to stay

Kevin Kampl of Bundesliga team RB Leipzig hopes for Dani Olmo to stay. "Dani is already a winner of this EM. He didn't start as a regular but kept his focus, was the best and decisive player on the pitch against Germany", said the 33-year-old midfielder to the "Leipziger Volkszeitung".

Kampl praised the Spaniard in the highest terms: "Dani is a unique player, very quick with the first ball contact, then often impossible to catch up. That's something you can't learn, it's a gift he has. Plus, his incredible passes into the depth. Dani is a complete package."

The 26-year-old midfielder, who also has good chances of being the top scorer in the EM final against England, is said to have a buyout clause of over 60 million Euro until July 20. "He has developed in Leipzig, RB and Dani have done each other good. I hope he stays with us despite the interest", Kampl, who has been playing for RB since 2017, said.

Rejection of National Team Comeback

Regarding his colleague Xavi, who were eliminated with the Netherlands in the EM semifinals against England, Kampl wants to dispel any thoughts of farewell: "I wrote to Xavi during the EM that we still want to celebrate some victories together. We all would be very happy if he decided for us."

All the more pleased is the two-time father over the already extended contract of his teammate Benjamin Sesko. His compatriot was unlucky to be eliminated with Slovenia in the EM. Kampl had rejected a comeback in the National Team before the EM. "The Slovene FA chief visited me in Leipzig and handed me the jersey with the number ten. I had to politely, but definitely decline", Kampl said.

Kampl does not want his career to end

However, Kampl, who extended his contract until 2026, gave a fighting statement towards the starting positions after the first training week. "I have always been a regular player in my career, every footballer wants to play as much as possible, it's clear", Kampl, who only functioned as a substitute in the second round of the previous season, said, "I want to contribute as much as possible – in the dressing room and on the pitch. I'm not retiring to La Palma and letting my career fade away."

  1. Kevin Kampl, a midfielder for RB Leipzig in Germany's Football Bundesliga, expresses his hope that Dani Olmo, another talented midfielder, will continue playing for the team.
  2. Despite having a buyout clause worth over 60 million Euro until July 20, Olmo has developed well in Leipzig, and Kampl believes he should stay with the team despite the interest.
  3. Kampl praised Olmo highly, stating that he is a unique player with quick ball control, great first-touch skills, and impressive passes, making him a complete package.
  4. In the European Championship (EM), Olmo had a good chance of being the top scorer in the final against England, representing Spain.
  5. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" reported on Kampl's praise for Olmo, and the appreciation was also shared on pages like "Focus" and the "Leipzig People's Newspaper," which cover local news in Saxony, Germany.
  6. Kampl himself had previously declined an offer to return to the Slovenian national team, saying he politely declined the jersey with the number ten when the team's FA chief visited him in Leipzig.
