- Israeli military leader proposes exit option for Sinwar from Gaza territory
With discussions over a truce and hostage release at a standstill, Israel proposes a exit path for Hamas leader Yahya al-Sinwar and his family from the Gaza Strip. "I'm prepared to establish a secure passage for Sinwar, his family, and anyone accompanying them," stated Israel's major general responsible for hostages and missing persons, Gal Hirsch, during an interview with Bloomberg's financial news service.
"We're after the hostages' return. We're seeking disarmament, de-ideologization, and you can bet your bottom dollar on a fresh leadership structure for Gaza," Hirsch explained.
As per the report, the liaison officer for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on hostage return put forward this proposition around two days back. Hirsch remained silent regarding any potential reaction.
The location of Sinwar remains a mystery. There are rumors of him hiding in an extensive tunnel system beneath the Gaza Strip.
A Hamas representative spoke to a German press agency in Beirut mid-January, expressing that Gaza's leaders would not leave willingly. "It's either victory or martyrdom," a Hamas insider shared. "Gaza is our land, and our lives are as valuable as anyone else's."
Talks on achieving a truce in the Gaza conflict, mediated by Egypt, the USA, and the Gulf state of Qatar, and the release of Israeli hostages imprisoned by Hamas are currently at a standstill.
The liaison officer proposed this exit path for Sinwar and his family, as discussions on a truce and hostage release remain at a standstill. According to the report, Hirsch suggested a secure passage for Sinwar and his family to leave the Gaza Strip.
