Israel retrieves bodies of two hostages from Gaza
Israel is determined to free the 240 or so people taken hostage in the Gaza Strip. This was mainly achieved during the ceasefire, which lasted several days. Now the guns are talking again. The soldiers nevertheless find two more hostages, albeit dead.
Israel's military says it has recovered the bodies of two more people kidnapped from Israel in the Gaza Strip. Their dead bodies were brought back to Israel and identified there, the army announced. The bodies were those of a 27-year-old woman who was abducted during the Hamas massacre at the Supernova festival and a 36-year-old Israeli army officer. He was also abducted in the Gaza Strip on October 7. The families of the two were informed on Tuesday. The army did not initially provide any information on the cause of death in either case.
The son of former Chief of General Staff Gadi Eisenkot was also killed during the operations that led to the recovery of the bodies. Eisenkot is a member of Israel's war cabinet. Israel's army made the death of his 25-year-old son public last week.
The army last reported the number of people still being held in the Gaza Strip at 138. It is unclear whether this includes the hostages who have since been declared dead. Israeli soldiers have already recovered several bodies in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Gaza war.
According to Israeli reports, a total of around 240 people have been kidnapped in the unprecedented attack by the terrorist organization Hamas and other extremists on border towns in Israel. A total of 105 hostages were recently released as part of a deal between the government in Jerusalem and Hamas. In exchange, Israel released 240 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
