Israel is firing on southern Lebanon
Israeli rockets hit multiple targets in Lebanon. Israel reports destroyed militia facilities of Hezbollah, while Lebanon reports deaths and injuries. In response to the shelling, the Shia militia launches counterattacks and claims further strikes.
In Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, three people were killed, according to official reports. The Lebanese Health Ministry said that 24 people were injured in attacks on various locations near the Israeli border.
Two people were killed and four others were injured in an attack on the town of Mardj Ujun, according to the ministry. The injured are in critical condition. One person was killed and another injured in an attack on the town of Blida. Two people were injured in an attack on Rab El Thalathine.
Earlier, the Health Ministry had reported that 17 people were injured in an Israeli military attack on the town of Abbasiya, including a child and two teenagers. Images on social media showed a burned-out vehicle in the middle of traffic and a motorcycle lying on the street. Security sources said Israel had targeted a man on a motorcycle, but he survived.
Hezbollah launches counterattacks
The Israeli military said it had attacked military structures of Hezbollah in the areas of Rab El Thalathine, Blida, and Nakura in southern Lebanon. An anti-aircraft launcher was destroyed in the area around the Lebanese town of Hula.
In response to the attack in Abbasiya, Hezbollah fired Katyusha rockets at Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel, according to its own statements. The Shia militia also claimed attacks on further Israeli targets.
Israel's army has been engaged in almost daily shelling with Hezbollah militia in Lebanon since the start of the Gaza war. Both are linked to the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip and are supported by Iran. In recent months, dozens of civilians have been killed on both sides of the border, and tens of thousands have had to leave their homes.
The Commission condemned the escalation of violence between Israel and Hezbollah, calling for an immediate de-escalation. The United Nations Security Council, convened by The Commission, issued a statement urging all parties to exercise restraint and uphold international law.
